Pros

  • A cute art style separates it from other games in the genre
  • May appeal to existing fans of AdVenture Capitalist

Cons

  • Incredibly aggressive with its in game purchases
  • Far less complexity than other idle clickers on the market

AdVenture Communist belongs to the idle clicker genre of phone games, and while it cloaks itself in a charming and humorous art style, there's likely not enough variety here to appeal to players for very long. AdVenture Communist is the sequel to AdVenture Capitalist, and anyone who's played the latter can jump in without any confusion. Even those who have never touched an idle clicker before should be able to understand all the fundamentals of the game in a matter of seconds.

At its core, the game is essentially a skinner box. The player starts by clicking a button that earns them money which can be spent to improve the amount of money that button earns them or unlock new buttons that can be clicked for larger sums of money. Each of these buttons reloads on a timer. Buttons with larger payouts tend to fill up more slowly, but upgrades can increase the amount of money earned or change the length of time they take to replenish. In practical terms, these buttons represent different industries, and the upgrades represent the workers you can devote to them, but the fundamentals are the same as practically any other idle clicker. There are a few layers of complications here as well. Reaching certain achievements in the game make your production more efficient in a number of different ways, while managers can be assigned to the different industries to reduce the tedium of clicking. Then there are scientists who can bring a whole variety of different perks to the experience.

The aesthetic of the game is fun if exceedingly ironic. The cartoon characters that populate the universe are all drawn from Soviet stereotypes of communism, and the world presented is a light-hearted and irreverent spoof of communist doctrine in the same way that AdVenture Capitalist gently caricatured Gilded Age America. But the systems behind the game are an inherently simplistic drive to collect more virtual money simply for the sake of collecting more virtual money. And for a game so simple, AdVenture Communist is absolutely loaded down with in app purchases. The options are available to spend as much of hundreds of dollars in a single go, and those purchases do little more than reduce the amount of time you need to spend clicking in a game that inherently boils down to nothing but clicking.

There's something to be said about the appeal of idle clickers, but AdVenture Communist puts its in app purchases too front and center and doesn't offer the level of depth as many other games in the genre. Idle clickers are all about stimulating the primal reward stimuli in the minds of players, and there are plenty of other clickers that serve that drip feed of stimulation far more effectively.
